Some year, 2020, one which most of us would probably prefer to forget. A year in which life as we knew it was turned upside down in ways we could never have imagined.
In keeping with the times, this year AIIC has decided to mark International Translation Day on 30 September1 with a reminder of the crucial role played by interpreters against the stark backdrop of today’s world.
Entitled ‘Finding the words for a world in crisis’ our thought-provoking series of carousel images and email/social media banner are designed to make us reflect on the place of the interpreter in (to use the UN’s words) , ‘bringing nations together, facilitating dialogue, understanding and cooperation, contributing to development and strengthening world peace and security’. Take the time to watch the full carousel, post your email banner with pride, share it with your clients and friends then, once you’ve done all that, test your interpreting vocabulary by finding the words to slot into our specially designed crossword, to complete online or print out, as you prefer (the solutions, should you need them, will be emailed to all members on Monday, 5 October).
