My updated list of conferences – tick! My sponsors – tick! How do I show I am ready to join AIIC?
You have come a long way. Finally, you have your interpreting credentials. You have a chronological list of conferences from the past three years. You have identified your sponsors who, like you, respect the Code of Professional Ethics and you have gone through the Statutes. You’re almost there!
─── Before you join
Before you join
You must have worked as an interpreter for a total of at least 150 days, in accordance with AIIC’s rules and regulations.
You must have invited AIIC member colleagues to agree to observe you at work and vouch for your professional skills and work ethics.
─── Which languages
Applications are made in the form of language pairs, composed of one source language and one target language.
When the target language of the pair is an A, it is to be covered by at least 2 sponsors with an A in that language and an A, a B or a C in the source language.
When the target language of the pair is a B, it is to be covered by at least 1 sponsor with an A and 1 with an A or a B in that language and an A, a B or a C in the source language.
Every language that is not a target language shall be referred to as a C.
At least three different sponsors must cover all the applicant's language pairs.
─── Finding sponsors
You have at least three sponsors, including two from your region, who are active members of AIIC, cover at least one language pair and have:
listened to you work at a meeting no more than three years prior to the date at which they signed your application;
signed your application form no more than three years prior to the date at which the AIIC Secretariat receives your application; and
5 years seniority in the languages they are sponsoring.
