Stress Management - Tools and Strategies (24th March)

What is this event about?
Thanks to tools and strategies designed to manage and then use stress to achieve and systematise expert performance in interpretation, participants can expect to learn techniques and approaches which will equip them to be both happier and more confident interpreters. As a former high-level sportsperson, the trainer will apply principles and techniques, both psychological and physiological, which have proven their worth in the field of professional sport and sports psychology. Video sources will also be included to provide a varied, lively and challenging experience as well as a path to achieving truly expert performance.
Who is this event for?
This workshop is designed for both students and experienced practitioners. The goal is to help interpreters perform better and more consistently, and to increase satisfaction and fulfilment before, during and after performing.
When will it take place?
March 24th, 10:00-15:00 EST (New York) / 16:00-21:00 CET (Geneva)
The 2 workshops are identical. March 23rd is best for interpreters in Asia Pacific and March 24th is best for colleagues in the Americas.

About the trainer

Chris Guichot de Fortis, (A-EN, B-FR, C-ES) M.A. (Cantab); PDLS (Bath); BACI; AIIC, has had an eclectic career. He began as a professional tennis player, then became an international-level amateur rally driver, and served for 9 years in the British police. In 1988 he started at NATO Headquarters as staff interpreter, moving up to become Senior Interpreter and running NATO’s staff and freelance recruitment tests and practice programme. Since 2001, Chris has been co-director of the Cambridge Conference Interpretation Course (CCIC). He has taught and lectured at 11 interpreting schools on 3 continents, and for several years was a trainer on the UN Geneva GIMUN programme, as well as on all 3 TerpSummits. Coordinator of the Belgian AIIC Network of Trainers and chief interpreter for the Vineyard Brussels Church, Chris has also organized interpreting teams for several NGOs. Now retired, he spends his time freelancing, training and coaching students and young interpreters, and lecturing and training on asylum and migration. |
