AIIC UK & Ireland News

01/04/2024
Outreach Event at University of Westminster
The talk was about professional associations to students in the Translation/Interpretation course, along with the Institute of Translation and Interpreting.

AIIC member Aline Garcia Morgan talked about AIIC’s history, introduced the UK & Ireland Bureau, and focused on 4 questions: 1)What does AIIC do? 2)How can it help an interpreter professionally? 3)What are the duties as a pre-candidate? 4)How to get involved, become a pre-candidate, and join AIIC?

Aline gave a detailed introduction about AIIC’s representation of the profession, its promotion of quality standards and ethics, and its role in supporting members and aspiring members. She then talked about the recognition, reputation and visibility that come with joining the association, among other benefits, such as CPD, advice and support, and being part of an international network. Last but not the least, she explained the importance of complying with AIIC’s Professional Standards and Code of Conduct to become a pre-candidate or member and how students could get involved, by joining the Vega Network, following AIIC on socials, and participating in AIIC events/courses.

Whilst AIIC’s reach is truly global, the day was aimed at presenting professional associations present in the UK, for soon to be graduating students. AIIC UK & Ireland is available to help and advise on all things interpreting.
