Outreach: London Metropolitan University
AIIC UK&I Bureau
On Wednesday 24 March, the Region’s outreach team of Louise Jarvis, Emmanuelle Rivière (VEGA representative for the UK) and Azucena Bermúdez Pérez (VEGA representative for Ireland) had the great pleasure of paying a virtual visit to London Metropolitan University. They spent an hour with this year’s conference interpreting cohort of 17 students, who have a total of seven different A languages. Louise began by introducing AIIC, explaining what it does, how it is addressing present challenges, and how it could help the students in their interpreting careers. Emmanuelle then explained the ethos of the VEGA network and the duties of AIIC membership, while Azucena took over to explain how to get involved and eventually join AIIC as either a pre-candidate or member. The students’ questions ranged from how to tackle ethical dilemmas to the impact of the pandemic on the profession.
Louise, Emmanuelle and Azucena would like to thank Danielle D’Hayer and Ewa Jasinska-Davidson, as well as all of their students, for their kind invitation and warm welcome.
