What is this event about?
The interface between teaching and research, two pivotal elements of higher education, has long attracted scholarly attention because of their complementary and mutually reinforcing characteristics. In this talk, the trainer will explore the dynamic and reciprocal relationship between teaching and research in the context of translation and interpreting studies.

The core of this talk will center on a series of case studies drawn from the trainer's own experiences. These cases illuminate how teaching in both practice-oriented and research-focused courses can serve as a fertile ground for research in interpreting. By sharing these examples, Dr Han aims to demonstrate how classroom experiences and pedagogical challenges can not only inform, but also enrich research endeavors in our field.

Key points of discussion will include: a) methodological synergy, i.e., how teaching methodologies can inspire research questions and vice versa; b) curriculum as a research laboratory, i.e., how the curriculum can be used as a testing ground for new research ideas; c) student engagement in research, i.e., how can students be actively involved in research; d) teaching-research reciprocity, i.e., how insights gained from teaching or research inform and improve the other; e) challenges and balancing act, i.e., balancing teaching and research responsibilities for educators; and f) future directions, i.e., speculating on future trends in pedagogically-oriented interpreting research and how emerging academics can position their research in response to these developments.

Who is this event for?
This presentation is tailored for early-career academics and teachers who are navigating the early stages of their careers in university settings. The session will be interactive, encouraging dialogue and exchange of ideas among participants, fostering a collaborative environment for sharing experiences and best practices. The goal is to inspire scholars with insights to integrate their teaching and research endeavors, ultimately contributing to the advancement of our field. Participants are encouraged to propose research ideas/topics to be incorporated into the talk.
