Sectors

Whether working for a public institution with whom AIIC has agreed terms and conditions or with a private sector client, AIIC interpreters deliver the best in conference interpreting

Broadly speaking, in AIIC parlance, interpreters are employed by two types of client:

The Agreement Sectors

AIIC has concluded agreements with many of the major international organisations – the United Nations and most of its specialised agencies, the European Union institutions, the ‘Coordinated Organisations’ and more. These agreements cover working conditions, standards and remuneration.

The Private Market Sector

All other employers of interpreters – such as commercial companies, associations, local or national authorities, NGOs, event organisers – are grouped together by AIIC as the Private Market Sector (PRIMS).

Many AIIC members work in both these sectors.

Each sector has its own structure, committees, working groups and meetings.
