PRIMS: AIIC’s Sector for Private Market Interpreters

IF YOU ARE A FREELANCE INTERPRETER WHO NEGOTIATES CONTRACTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS, PRIMS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU!

About us:

─── WHO WE ARE

PRIMS is AIIC’s Sector for professional freelance interpreters working on international and national private markets and in the public sector. Our sector is present in all AIIC regions in the world and is the biggest AIIC sector.

Do you work as an interpreter for corporations large or small, associations, local and national authorities, event organisers, international organisations or NGOs? Do you negotiate your own contracts and working conditions? Are you considering becoming a member of AIIC? Then PRIMS is the sector for you.

─── WHAT WE DO

We hold two thematic PRIMS meetings a year, where we analyse market trends, explore developments in the conference industry, build consensus on the way forward, discuss professional guidelines and offer tools to our fellow interpreters. PRIMS meetings are also open to AIIC pre-candidates and candidates and include side-events, which conference interpreters considering joining AIIC but not yet having taken the final step may attend. Yes, this is a formal invitation!

We also aim to build bridges between conference interpreters and other stakeholders in the conference industry. We share common challenges and PRIMS offers the perfect setting to exchange ideas and find common ground on which we interpreters can build together.

In between meetings, we also work on videos, guidelines, and documents that, we hope, help our members —and, by extension, the profession as a whole— achieve healthier and more sustainable working conditions.

Every year, PRIMS organises a winter and a summer meeting. Our goal is to harness AIIC’s global reach and to hold our gatherings in different parts of the globe. We want to have our finger on the pulse of the various interpreting markets around the world, and work with our fellow interpreters to stay on top.

PRIMS is coordinated by a Steering Committee that is elected by the members every 3 years. The SC is in charge of coordinating events, creating the resources you’ll find below, taking the pulse of the market and, generally, listening to all of you! The current SC is composed of the following volunteers:

  • Lívia Cais (Brazil)
  • Leire Carbonell Aguero (USA)
  • Federica Mamini - Coordinator (Belgium)
  • Verónica Pérez Guarnieri (Argentina)
  • Ana Pleite Moreno (Asia Pacific)

If you have any questions —or any innovative ideas you would like to share—, you can reach your PRIMS SC at prims-sc@aiic.org
