Joint letter from AIIC UK&I, ITIA and CISLI to Ireland’s Taoiseach
AIIC UK&I Bureau
The Irish Government set up a COVID-19 pandemic payment for both the employed and the self-employed. However, to be eligible, beneficiaries needed to have ceased trading completely on or after 13 March. AIIC UK & Ireland sent a joint letter with the Irish Translators & Interpreters Association (ITIA) and the Council of Irish Sign Language Interpreters (CISLI) to An Taoiseach calling for a relaxation of the requirement to cease trading completely. This would allow self-employed interpreters to qualify for the support measures even if they are still able to maintain some business activity, albeit very reduced, as they otherwise risk losing their clients altogether.
